The Indian contingent’s journey at the Paris Olympics 2024 has ended with 6 medals. India won 1 silver and 5 bronze medals during this period. The disappointing thing was that no Indian was able to win gold in this 14-day event, due to which the Indian national anthem could not be played while climbing the podium. The best performing athlete from India this time too was Neeraj Chopra, who won the country’s only silver medal in javelin throw. Apart from this, India won 5 bronze medals in shooting, hockey and wrestling.
With these 6 medals, India is currently ranked 71st in the medal table. This was a disappointing performance for India compared to the Tokyo Olympics. Last time, India had won a total of 7 medals, including one gold medal by Neeraj Chopra. India was ranked 48th in the medal table of Tokyo Olympics.
Will Vinesh Phogat get the silver medal or not, know when the decision will come
A total of 117 athletes from India went to the Paris Olympics, so returning with only 6 medals is a matter of concern.
The decision on Vinesh Phogat’s medal is yet to come
The decision on whether wrestler Vinesh Phogat will get a medal or not is yet to come. Phogat had made it to the finals of the 50Kg category, at least a silver medal was confirmed for her, but on the day of the final she was disqualified due to being 100 grams overweight. However, she has appealed for this, the decision of which is yet to come.
Manu Bhaker shines in shooting, India wins three medals
Manu Bhaker won the country’s first medal in shooting at the Paris Olympics. This shooter, who had a disappointing performance due to a faulty gun at the Tokyo Olympics, won not one but two bronze medals in Paris. She won the first bronze medal in the 10 meter air pistol women’s event. After this, she aimed for bronze with Sarabjot in the 10 meter air pistol mixed event.
Swapnil Kusale won India’s third medal in shooting in the men’s 50m rifle 3 position.
21 year old Aman Sehrawat shines in wrestling
A total of 6 wrestlers from India competed in the Paris Olympics, including 5 women and 1 male wrestler. Aman Sehrawat managed to win a bronze medal for India in the 57kg category. This was the first Olympics of his career. He created history for India by winning an Olympic medal at the age of 21 years and a few days. He became the youngest player to win an Olympic medal for the country. He surpassed PV Sindhu in this list.
Apart from Vinesh Phogat, no other female wrestler was able to make a mark. If the CAS decision comes in Vinesh’s favour, she will become the wrestler to win India’s second medal in wrestling at the Paris Olympics.
Won bronze for the second consecutive time in hockey
The Indian men’s hockey team managed to win the bronze medal for the second consecutive time in the Olympic Games. The team’s dream of reaching the final was shattered by Germany in the semi-finals, but India won the bronze medal match by defeating Spain 3-2. After 1968-72, India has won medals in hockey in two consecutive Olympic Games. It is hoped that next time the men’s hockey team will complete this hat-trick with a gold.
Gold slipped away from Neeraj Chopra
Neeraj Chopra, who had aimed for gold in the Tokyo Olympics, had to settle for silver in the Paris Olympics this time. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem had ended Neeraj’s hopes of gold by throwing 92.97 meters. The Indian athlete gave a season best performance in this competition with a throw of 89.45 meters and finished second on the podium.
