Kangana Ranaut’s film may be banned in this Congress-ruled state, uproar over Emergency

Bollywood: Bollywood actress and Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ is facing a ban. There are reports that the Congress-ruled Telangana government may decide to ban the film. However, no final decision has been taken on this yet. Recently, the SGPC i.e. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee also sent a legal notice to the film producer.

Government may consider ban in Telangana

An 18-member delegation of Telangana Sikh Society met state government advisor Mohammad Ali Shabbir. During the meeting, concerns were expressed over the portrayal of the Sikh community in the film. Allegations were being made that an attempt has been made to tarnish the image of the community in the film. The special thing is that the Sikh community in Telangana is two percent of the total population.

According to media reports, officials say that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has promised on Thursday that his government will consider banning the film Emergency. According to the Indian Express, Shabbir said, ‘The Sikh community stressed that about 12 percent of the country’s armed forces are Sikhs, many of whom have sacrificed their lives for the security of the country. They, and especially Sikh youth, have expressed displeasure over the content of the film promotion.’

Shabbir has formally requested CM Reddy to ban the film. He has questioned the content of the film and feared that it may cause tension. He has said that Reddy has assured that he will take a decision on this after taking legal advice.

Akali Dal also raised the demand

The Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal has appealed to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to ban the release of Kangana Ranaut-starrer film ‘Emergency’ as it may incite communal tension. BJP MP and actress Ranaut plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. The film will hit the theatres on September 6.

Shiromani Akali Dal’s Delhi unit president Paramjit Singh Sarna in a letter to the censor board on Wednesday said that the recently released trailer of the film contains erroneous historical facts which not only misrepresent the Sikh community but also spread hatred and social animosity. He said that such a portrayal is not only misleading but also highly derogatory and damaging to the social fabric of Punjab and the entire country.

Sarna said, ‘In view of the fears that this film may increase communal tension and spread misinformation, I request the CBFC to use its powers to ban its release.’
