Maldives President Muizzu on India: The tone of the Maldives President, who once came to power riding the anti-India wave, has changed. Now Mohammad Muizzu praises and thanks India in every conversation. Muizzu did this once again on Friday in an official ceremony organized on the occasion of Maldives’ 59th Independence Day. He said that there is no doubt that India will remain a close country of Maldives. He said that India helps the most in repaying his country’s loans. Although he also took the name of China, but gave more importance to India. Muizzu thanked India and China for helping in strengthening his country’s weak economy. He also said that the role of New Delhi and Beijing is important in overcoming the country’s debt crisis.
Let us tell you that after coming to power, Muizzu had opened a front against India. Due to this, India’s relations with Maldives had soured. India had taken many important decisions, due to which the economic condition of Maldives started deteriorating. Not only this, the number of Indian tourists visiting Maldives also decreased on a large scale. After this, the ministers of Muizzu government and President Muizzu himself also started praising India. Muizzu also attended the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi’s third term. Muizzu also told that Maldives is in the process of making a free trade agreement with India.
“On behalf of the people of Maldives, I would like to thank the Chinese government and the Indian government for their cooperation in strengthening the country’s economy, maintaining our economic sovereignty and for the sake of the people of Maldives,” Muizzu was quoted as saying by news portal ‘Adhadhu.com’. He also appreciated the assistance of Rs 400 crore provided by India.
It is worth noting that Muizzu came to power last year on the back of an anti-India campaign. During this campaign, a demand was made to call back about 80 Indian military personnel who operated helicopters and Dornier aircraft donated by India.
