According to Bar and Bench, a website that reports on court related matters, on Monday a person joined Court 11 through video conferencing. This person was wearing a vest. As soon as Judge Justice B.V. Nagarathna saw that person, she got angry. She immediately asked who is this person who is seen in a vest. After this, Justice Datta also asked whether he is a party or is he just like that? Justice Nagarathna’s anger did not stop here, she immediately said throw him out, remove him. How can this be done? She told the court master to please remove him.
However, this is not the first case in the Supreme Court when the judges have shown displeasure over someone’s clothes. Earlier in the year 2020, a lawyer had joined the hearing in the court without a shirt through video conferencing. The judges got angry on seeing this. Then the bench of Justice L Nageshwar and Justice Hemant Gupta expressed displeasure and said what kind of behavior is this? It has been seven to eight months since the hearing is being done through video conferencing, but still such things are happening. It is worth noting that in the year 2020, the functioning of the court was also affected due to the Corona epidemic. Then for a long time, hearings were done through video conferencing only.
…when the lawyer was seen shirtless
A similar case has also happened in front of the bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud. However, he had not become CJI then. In the year 2020 itself, during the hearing of the Supreme Court, a lawyer appeared shirtless on the screen in front of the bench headed by Justice Chandrachud. On this, Justice Chandrachud interrupted him and said that I do not like to be strict with anyone, but you are on the screen. You have to be careful. At the same time, in June of the same year, a lawyer appeared in the virtual hearing of the Supreme Court wearing a T-shirt while lying on the bed. The judge’s displeasure was seen in this case too.
