Japan’s Suzuki Motor has already showcased the eVitara in Milan, Italy. Suzuki Motor has a major stake in Maruti Suzuki. However, it is not known whether the specifications of the European variant of this electric SUV will be given in the model launched in India or not. Maruti has told that it will be exported from the country. It will be manufactured on the HEARTECT-e platform specifically designed for battery-powered electric vehicles. It has two separate electric axles at the front and rear. Trail mode has been provided in eVitara for driving on bad roads.
This electric SUV has two battery variants of 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Single-speed drive transmission has been given in eVitara. The share of EV in the total sales of vehicles in the country is less than 10 percent. India is the third largest automobile market in the world after America and China. Despite this, the number of EVs in the country is low. However, the trend of decline in international sales of EV is not visible in India. Between January and November this year, EV sales in the country have increased by about 30 percent.
Recently, a report said that to meet the demand for public charging for EVs in the country, a capital expenditure of about Rs 16,000 crore is required by 2030. Measures are also being taken by the Central Government to promote EV. Hyundai’s Creta Electric, which has a major share in the automobile market, will also be launched at the Bharat Mobility Expo. Its manufacturing can be started by the end of December. There is not likely to be any major change in the design of Creta Electric. Being an EV, it can be given a closed grill at the front and 17-inch alloy wheels for better efficiency.
