Pakistan’s Peshawar city has been the center of the outbreak of the monkeypox virus. On Sunday, the fifth case of infection has been reported here. Monkeypox has been confirmed in an air passenger in Peshawar. At the same time, a suspected case of the deadly virus has been reported in Karachi. Health officials gave this information on Saturday. Dr. Irshad Ali, Director of Public Health of the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, shared details about this. He said that medical personnel at the airport found symptoms of monkeypox in 2 passengers who returned from Jeddah on Thursday and only one of them was confirmed to have the monkeypox virus.
According to reports, the confirmed case is a 51-year-old man from Orakzai. His condition is said to be stable and he has been shifted to a hospital in Peshawar for treatment. Dr Irshad said, “We are closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the infection.” Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man has been admitted to a hospital in Karachi after showing symptoms like ampox.
WHO presented a plan to control it
At the same time, the World Health Organization (WHO) has presented a half-yearly plan to help control the outbreak of the measles infection. It includes various suggestions including increasing the number of health workers in the affected countries, increasing surveillance, adopting prevention and response strategies. The WHO said that it estimates that this plan, which will be implemented from September to February next year, will require US $ 135 million. Its purpose is to improve the supply of vaccines in various countries, especially African countries badly affected by the infection. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, ‘The measles outbreak in the Republic of Congo and surrounding countries can be controlled and curbed.’
