Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin over phone and shared experiences from his recent visit to Ukraine and reiterated India’s firm commitment to an early, lasting and peaceful resolution of Russia’s conflict with Ukraine.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi said that in his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, measures to further strengthen the special strategic partnership between the two countries were also discussed.
Prime Minister Modi said, “Exchanged views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and shared experiences from my recent visit to Ukraine. Reiterated India’s firm commitment to an early, lasting and peaceful resolution of the conflict.”
On Monday, Modi briefed US President Joe Biden about his visit to Ukraine and expressed India’s full support for early restoration of peace in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.
It is worth noting that a few months ago, he had angered the people of Ukraine by hugging Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Zelensky had described the meeting between PM Modi and Putin as a wrong message. After which PM Modi visited Kiev last Friday. During his visit to Ukraine, Modi also visited the war zone. Modi told President Volodymyr Zelensky that “no problem can be solved on the battlefield.”
