Praised his mother, asked about his injury; PM Modi called Neeraj Chopra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Neeraj Chopra, who won the silver medal in the Olympics 2024, on the phone on Friday. During this, the Prime Minister congratulated Neeraj for his great achievement and inquired about his recent injury. Tokyo Olympics gold winner Neeraj Chopra has brought laurels to the country by winning the silver medal in the javelin throw competition at the Paris Olympics.

During the phone call, Prime Minister Modi also praised the sportsmanship of Neeraj’s mother. Neeraj Chopra is being praised across the country for this achievement. The Prime Minister also asked Neeraj about his adductor problem which was troubling him before the event in Paris. In June this year, Neeraj had said that he was consulting doctors to deal with his injury.

The Prime Minister praised the sportsmanship of Neeraj Chopra’s mother. Neeraj’s mother had said that gold medalist Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan is ‘like our son’. Saroj Devi told news agency ANI, “We are very happy. For us, even silver is equal to gold. The one who won the gold (Nadeem) is also like our son.”

Neeraj told the Prime Minister that he missed out on winning the gold medal due to the injury. Advising him not to focus on missing the gold medal, Modi said that very few players get the distinction of winning two Olympic medals. Modi said, “You have achieved this feat despite the injury, which is unbelievable. This will inspire our young generation. This spirit of doing something for the country inspires us.” He said that he would like to discuss Neeraj’s injury in detail to find out how it can be better managed going forward. Neeraj said that he will continue to work hard and perform better in the upcoming sports events.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Neeraj Chopra is the embodiment of excellence. Time and again he has proved his excellence. India is delighted that he has once again achieved success at the Olympics.” The Prime Minister said, “Congratulations to him on winning silver. He will continue to inspire countless upcoming players to fulfill their dreams and make the country proud.”

On Thursday (August 8), Neeraj threw the javelin 89.45 meters in Paris, the capital of France, and gave his best performance of this season. However, he missed out on defending his gold medal. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal with a best throw of 92.97 meters, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters won the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54 meters. Neeraj became the third Indian to win medals in two consecutive Olympics after wrestler Sushil Kumar and badminton star PV Sindhu.
