Delhi’s Chief Minister-designate Atishi will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Delhi today i.e. on 21 September. President Draupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, appointing her as the Chief Minister of Delhi from the date of swearing-in.
Along with this, the President also approved the appointment of 5 ministers. A notification has also been issued by the President’s Office in this regard. Let us tell you that the swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Niwas on Saturday. During this, while Atishi will take oath as the Chief Minister, 5 ministers will also take the oath of office and secrecy along with her. During this, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Imran Hussain and Mukesh Ahlawat will take oath as ministers.
The notification issued by the President’s Office regarding accepting Kejriwal’s resignation reads, ‘The President accepts the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, and his Council of Ministers with immediate effect. However, he will continue to serve as the Chief Minister of the National Capital Territory of Delhi until the new Chief Minister is sworn in.’
At the same time, in the notification issued regarding Atishi’s oath, it is written, ‘The President appoints Ms. Atishi as the Chief Minister of the National Capital Territory of Delhi from the date of her swearing-in.’
Kejriwal resigned on Tuesday
Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal had resigned from the post of Chief Minister of Delhi on Tuesday, after which Atishi had staked claim to form a new government in the national capital.
Atishi held 13 key portfolios such as finance, revenue, public works department (PWD) and education in the cabinet headed by Kejriwal. Her experience in handling so many departments led to Atishi being chosen as Kejriwal’s successor.
While in the Kejriwal cabinet, Gopal Rai has been handling the departments of Environment, Development and General Administration while Saurabh Bhardwaj has been the minister of Health, Tourism and Urban Development departments.
Kailash Gehlot holds the Transport, Home and Women and Child Development departments, while Imran Hussain is the Food and Supplies Minister.
Mukesh Ahlawat, MLA from Sultanpur Majra in Delhi, will be inducted into the vacancy created by the resignation of Social Welfare Minister Raj Kumar Anand. Anand resigned from the Kejriwal government in April and also severed ties with AAP. Kejriwal did not have any portfolio.
The tenure of the new CM will be only for a few months
Let us tell you that there are a total of seven members in the cabinet of the Delhi government including the Chief Minister. The tenure of the new Chief Minister and the new members will be brief because Delhi Assembly elections will be held in February next year.
