Chief Minister Hemant Soren has hit multiple targets with one arrow without wasting any time to replace Champai Soren in Kolhan. Ramdas Soren has been made a minister to fill the vacancy created by Champai Soren, famous as Kolhan Tiger and a product of Jharkhand movement, leaving JMM. Ramdas took oath of office and secrecy on Friday.
Although Ramdas Soren is an MLA for the second time (2009 and 2019 till now), there are many similarities between him and Champai. Ramdas is also a Santali like Champai. He comes from Ghatsila, a tribal-dominated area in Kolhan and has also been an agitator for a separate Jharkhand. For a long time, the command of the JMM organization of East Singhbhum has been in his hands.
Political analysts say that Ramdas fits most of the criteria as compared to Champai. Champai has been elected from Saraikela while Ramdas from Ghatshila. Champai is a strong voice of the Santali community while Ramdas also has an important role as an organizer in JMM. Political pundits even say that Champai Soren had become so big in Kolhan that other leaders below him did not get a chance to emerge. But with the initiative taken by Ramdas, the days of other leaders of the region will now be better.
This is the reason why Hemant Soren decided to not only make Ramdas Soren a minister in view of the upcoming assembly elections, but also entrusted him with the responsibility of compensating JMM for the loss due to Champai’s rebellion. With Champai wearing saffron, how effective Ramdas will be in keeping JMM’s fort in Kolhan impregnable will only be proved by the election results, but JMM has full faith in Ramdas that Champai’s joining BJP can directly reduce the loss on the nine tribal reserved seats of Kolhan. According to JMM General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey, Ramdas is a skilled organizer and the party will definitely benefit from his experience.
