Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the 79th United Nations General Assembly session in New York, USA. At the ‘Summit of the Future’, PM Modi said, “The success of humanity lies in our collective strength, not in the battlefield. Reforms in global institutions are important for global peace and development. Reforms are the key to relevance. On one hand, there is a big threat to global peace and security like terrorism, while on the other hand, new fields of conflict like cyber, maritime, space are emerging. Global action on all these issues should match global ambition.” He said that just in June, in the biggest election in human history, the people of India have given me the opportunity to serve for the third consecutive time and I have come here to convey the voice of one-sixth of humanity to you.
PM Modi said, ‘When we are talking about the global future, a human-centric approach should come first. While giving priority to sustainable development, we also have to ensure human welfare, food, health security. We have shown in India that sustainable development can be successful by lifting 250 million people out of poverty. We are ready to share this experience of success with the Global South.’ He said that balanced regulation is needed for safe and responsible use of technology. We need a global digital governance in which national sovereignty and integrity remain intact. Digital public infrastructure should be a bridge and not a barrier.
