Royal Enfield has launched a separate brand for electric motorcycles, Flying Flea. In the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, America Royal Enfield Mario Alvisi, Chief Growth Officer, Electric Vehicles, said, “Our tie-up with Qualcomm is an important step in building advanced EV technology. This will create a unique and differentiated product experience in the international electric mobility segment.” Qualcomm’s Snapdragon car-to-cloud platform will also be used in the company’s upcoming electric motorcycles.
Qualcomm has designed the Snapdragon QWM2290 chip specifically for two-wheelers. This provides power to the core vehicle unit. Flying Flea C6 can be launched in America and Europe before India. Siddhartha Lal, managing director of Eicher Motors, which owns Royal Enfield, had said that there is more demand for expensive products like the Flying Flea C6 in the markets of America and Europe. However, along with this he said that this electric motorcycle is likely to get good response in the country also. Lal said, “India is definitely always important for us. However, other markets may see better demand initially.”
The design of the Flying Flea C6 is inspired by the Flying Flea motorcycle of the 1940s, which was built for use in the Second World War. In World War II, these motorcycles were dropped through parachute. Its use helped soldiers in movement in remote areas. The design of this electric motorcycle of Royal Enfield gives a different look. It has round LED headlight and girder forks on the front. However, unlike the company’s petrol-powered motorcycles, it only has 17-inch tyres. It has a forged aluminum frame. This means that the company wants to position this motorcycle in the modern classic segment with a good range. With this, it will be able to give tough competition to the electric two-wheelers already present in the market.
