Russia gave clarification on Indians joining the army, S Jaishankar had said this; Embassy told since when the recruitment stopped

Indians in Russian Army: A new statement has come from the Russian army regarding the Indians fighting the war in Ukraine. The Russian Embassy has said that all Indians had voluntarily joined the Russian army. The work of identifying these people and sending them back to India is being done rapidly. The Russian Embassy expressed grief over the unfortunate incidents of casualties of Indians during this period and said that the recruitment of Indians in its armed forces has been stopped since April. Earlier, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had said that Indians were taken abroad by deceit in the name of getting good jobs. After this, they were thrown into the Russian army to fight the war. Jaishankar had said that India is not on anyone’s side in the Russia-Ukraine war.

In a statement, the embassy said that Moscow and New Delhi are working for the prompt identification and release of Indian citizens who voluntarily joined the contractual work in the military service and now want to return home. The statement also said that all the conditions of the contract will be fulfilled and they will also be given full compensation. The Russian embassy statement said that since April this year, the Russian Defense Ministry has stopped recruiting citizens of many other countries, including India, into military service. It said that the Russian army is not a part of any such campaign in which people from other countries are promised jobs there. Such campaigns can be fraudulent.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also said in his statement that the CBI is investigating such cases. The investigation has revealed the involvement of some human traffickers. According to this, Indians were misled by saying that they would be given good jobs abroad. After this, they were taken and recruited in the Russian army.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha on Friday that a total of 91 Indians were appointed in the Russian army. Eight of these people have died so far. The other 14 people were either released by the army or managed to return to India with some other help. According to the Foreign Minister, at present a total of 69 Indian citizens are waiting to be released from service by the Russian army. PM Modi, who visited Russia last month, also raised this issue in his meeting with President Putin.
