Speaking to reporters near the encounter site, Anand Jain gave more details about the incident. He said that information was received about the presence of terrorists in the area after which a search operation was started. Meanwhile, the encounter started. Jain said, ‘Head constable Bashir Ahmed was martyred in the encounter. 2 officers (Deputy Superintendent of Police and Assistant Sub-Inspector) are injured. At present the condition of both is stable. The entire area has been tightly cordoned off by security forces. It is believed that 3-4 foreign terrorists are hiding here, an operation is going on to kill them.

On this the police officer said that the operation against terrorists is going on and will continue. Jain said, ‘We are continuously receiving information about terrorists and the operation is going on with efforts to eliminate them as soon as possible.’ He said that there are adequate security arrangements in the election areas to ensure that no terrorism related incidents take place in the third phase and the elections are violence free. It is known that along with Kathua, voting is to be held in the third and final phase of elections on October 1 in Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts.

When the terrorists were detected, firing started from both sides. Earlier in the day, a hand grenade was found on the river bank in the area, which was later destroyed by a controlled explosion by experts.
