An encounter began between terrorists and security operations on Saturday night in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. During this, injured head constable Bashir Ahmed killed the staunch Pakistani terrorist before being martyred. Two police officers were also injured in the encounter. Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain wrote on Twitter, ‘Kathua Police HC Bashir Ahmed has made the supreme sacrifice in the ongoing operation in Kog village. Also, he displayed bravery and killed a terrorist. However, he succumbed to serious injuries. The condition of injured Deputy SP Sukhbir and ASI Niaz is stable.
Speaking to reporters near the encounter site, Anand Jain gave more details about the incident. He said that information was received about the presence of terrorists in the area after which a search operation was started. Meanwhile, the encounter started. Jain said, ‘Head constable Bashir Ahmed was martyred in the encounter. 2 officers (Deputy Superintendent of Police and Assistant Sub-Inspector) are injured. At present the condition of both is stable. The entire area has been tightly cordoned off by security forces. It is believed that 3-4 foreign terrorists are hiding here, an operation is going on to kill them.
Operation continues to kill terrorists
The question was asked about the elimination of the terrorist group in view of the third phase of elections on October 1. On this the police officer said that the operation against terrorists is going on and will continue. Jain said, ‘We are continuously receiving information about terrorists and the operation is going on with efforts to eliminate them as soon as possible.’ He said that there are adequate security arrangements in the election areas to ensure that no terrorism related incidents take place in the third phase and the elections are violence free. It is known that along with Kathua, voting is to be held in the third and final phase of elections on October 1 in Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts.
Encounter started in Rajouri on Sunday evening
Meanwhile, another encounter broke out in Thanamandi area of Rajouri district on Sunday evening. Security forces have launched a cordon and search operation after receiving information about the presence of 2 terrorists. The police officer said, ‘Intelligence was received about the presence of terrorists. Based on this, a joint search operation was started by the security forces in Maniyal Gali of Thanamandi. When the terrorists were detected, firing started from both sides. Earlier in the day, a hand grenade was found on the river bank in the area, which was later destroyed by a controlled explosion by experts.
