Samsung Preparing to Launch its First Tri-Fold Smartphone, Will Give Competition to Huawei

South Korean electronics company Samsung plans to launch a tri-fold smartphone. Sales of foldable smartphones have increased rapidly in the last few years. Samsung has the highest share in this segment. The company may find it easier to strengthen its position in this market with a tri-fold smartphone.

Ross Young, analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), wrote a post on social media platform Post It has been told that this smartphone can be launched in 2026. It may have three screens and two hinges. This smartphone can compete with Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design. Chinese smartphone maker Huawei introduced the first triple fold smartphone in September. However, Mate XT Ultimate Design has not been launched in the international market. Earlier, ZDNet Korea had reported in a report quoting smartphone industry sources that Samsung plans to bring an entry-level clamshell-style foldable smartphone along with a tri-fold smartphone with a screen that folds twice.

Huawei is receiving strong demand for Mate XT Ultimate Design in China. The base variant of this smartphone with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB storage is priced at CNY 19,999 (approximately Rs 2,35,900). The prices of its 512 GB and 1 TB storage variants are CNY 21,999 (approximately Rs 2,59,500) and CNY 23,999 (approximately Rs 2,83,100) respectively. Mate XT Ultimate Design has been made available in Red and Black colors.

This dual SIM smartphone runs on HarmonyOS 4.2 out-of-the-box. Its screen when unfolded is 10.2 inches (3,184 x 2,232 pixels). The flexible LTPO OLED screen of this smartphone is 7.9 inches (2,048 x 2,232 pixels) when folded once and 6.4 inches (1,008 x 2,232 pixels) when folded the second time. The Mate XT Ultimate Design sports a 50-megapixel camera on the outside with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an aperture between f/1.2 and f/4.0. It has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5.5x optical zoom and f/3.4 aperture.
