Seat sharing has been done between National Conference and Congress for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections to be held next month. Leaders of both the parties said that the seat sharing has been finalized. NC has been given more seats i.e. 51 seats, while Congress will contest on 32 seats, while 5 seats have been kept aside. Both the parties will fight a disciplined contest on these seats, which means that the differences between the two parties on these seats have not ended completely. Congress’s Jammu and Kashmir chief Tariq Hameed Karra, while talking to the media, said that the deal has been finalized, NC will contest on 51 seats and Congress party on 32 seats, while 2 seats will be left for CPIM and Panthers Party.
The upcoming assembly elections are a big step for the future of Jammu and Kashmir as these elections are going to be held in Kashmir after a decade. It was during the President’s rule imposed after the last elections that Article 370 and 35A were removed from Kashmir.
Farooq Abdullah said- we will fight together and win too
NC chief and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said in a press conference after the meeting that it is a matter of great happiness that we have started a campaign against the divisive forces here. The All India Alliance was started so that we can fight against those forces who want to divide this country by making it communal. Today we have completed the talks and the seat sharing has been decided in a very good and better atmosphere. NC and Congress will fight this election together and will also win. Talking to the media, the Congress leader said that we have completed our discussions and we have reached a formula. We will fight the elections together and will also win the hearts of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. BJP is working to destroy the soul of Jammu and Kashmir, we will not let it do this.
Earlier, according to a report published in NDTV, NC had offered Congress only five seats in the valley and 28 to 30 seats in Jammu. But Congress was trying to get more seats. Congress and NC had already announced to contest the elections together, only the decision regarding seats was pending.
Last week, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had reached Farooq Abdullah’s house in Srinagar where both the leaders had announced the alliance, after which NC leader Omar Abdullah had said that most of the seats have been decided, only a few seats are left. Senior Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and KC Venugopal reached Srinagar to finalize the talks and today they met Omar Abdullah and finalized the deal.
