In the election manifesto, the Congress party has promised to give unemployment allowance of up to Rs 3,500 per month for one year to the eligible youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, the party has also promised to fill one lakh vacant government posts by releasing the recruitment calendar within 30 days.
The Congress party released its election manifesto for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on Monday. It promises several welfare measures for farmers, women and youth. The manifesto has been named ‘Haath Badlega Haalat’. It includes provision for insurance of all crops against natural disasters and a guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 72 per kg for apples. ‘Hand’ is the election symbol of the Congress party.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief spokesperson Pawan Khera and state Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra released the manifesto at the party headquarters in Srinagar. Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Khera said, “We will provide additional financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per year to landless, landholder and landowner farmer families.” He said a fund of Rs 2,500 crore will be set up for all district level irrigation projects to ensure 100 per cent irrigation for farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlights of Congress manifesto:
1. The party will constitute a Minority Commission in Jammu and Kashmir within 100 days of coming to power.
2. Insurance for all crops against natural calamities and minimum support price of Rs. 72 per kg for apple will be given.
3. Landless, tenant and land-owner farmer families will be provided additional financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per year.
4. 99-year lease will be provided to landless farmers cultivating state land.
5. A fund of Rs 2,500 crore will be set up for all district-level irrigation projects to ensure 100 per cent irrigation for farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.
6. Promise to give unemployment allowance of up to Rs 3,500 per month to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for one year.
7. One lakh vacant government posts will be filled by releasing job calendar within 30 days.
Let us tell you that voting for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be declared on October 8. Congress and National Conference have formed an alliance for the first assembly elections after the repeal of Article 370. According to the seat sharing agreement, National Conference is contesting on 51 seats, while Congress will contest on 32 seats. (With Bhasha inputs)
