The government is preparing to present the Wakf Board Amendment Bill in the Parliament today. Many Islamic organizations and leaders have expressed their objection to this and have warned of agitation. On the other hand, the BJP government wants to pass it in the current session itself. The Wakf Board Amendment Bill proposes that women and non-Muslims will also be included in the central and state Wakf Boards. There is a controversy over this and the leaders of the Muslim community are calling it interference in their religious matters. Not only this, now the Congress and its other allies have also decided to vote against this bill.
Congress MP EB Hayden has given a notice of opposition to the bill in the Lok Sabha. The government is introducing a bill to amend the Wakf Board Act of 1995 in the Parliament today. This bill proposes major changes in the Wakf Boards of the states. Apart from this, many provisions have also been made regarding encroachment, survey and use of Wakf property. Minority Welfare Minister Kiren Rijiju has listed this bill for discussion in the Lok Sabha. Congress MP K. Suresh said that the entire opposition is against this bill.
K. Suresh said that the Parliamentary Affairs Minister has told us that the bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha after the Question Hour. So far, apart from SP and Congress, Sharad Pawar’s NCP, DMK, TMC and many other parties in the opposition India Alliance have also announced opposition. K. Suresh said that we have told the government that you have brought this bill in a hurry. You should also talk to the concerned Muslim organizations on this. It should not be brought just for the purpose of polarization in the elections. He said that the government is not ready to back down on this bill. While our demand is that it should be sent to the Standing Committee of Parliament for deliberation. The entire opposition is unanimous on this.
