Tried to pass it off as suicide, didn’t even let anyone see the body; 7 big things SC said on Kolkata incident

The Supreme Court today heard the rape and heinous murder of a doctor from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. During this, the apex court made sharp comments on the Bengal government and the hospital administration. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s bench appealed to the doctors to stop the protests and return to work. The court said that we are there to ensure your safety and you should return to work. During this, the court expressed surprise at the public disclosure of the victim’s photos and name and said that we are very worried about this. Let’s know the 5 big things of the Supreme Court…

1. The Supreme Court reprimanded the West Bengal government for delay in registering FIR in the rape-murder case and asked what the hospital authorities were doing.

2. The Chief Justice’s bench said that when the conduct of the Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is under investigation, how was he immediately appointed to some other college. It seems that the crime was discovered early in the morning but the Principal of the medical college tried to call it a suicide.

3. The court said that most young doctors work for 36 hours, we need to create a national protocol to ensure safe working conditions. Along with this, the court has formed a task force, which will submit the final report in a month. Now the court has fixed August 22 for the next hearing of the case.

4. The bench has ordered the CBI to submit a status report on Thursday. The agency should tell where its investigation has reached in this case so far and what has been found. The Supreme Court said that if women are not able to go to work and the working conditions are not safe, then we are depriving them of equality.

5. The biggest question of the court was why the body of the doctor was not handed over to the family for three and a half hours. How did it take hours to register an FIR in this case. Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta accused the mob of destroying evidence by attacking. Mehta said that a mob of seven thousand people could not enter the RG Kar Hospital without the knowledge of Kolkata Police.

6. Linking the issue to women’s safety, the court said that if women are not able to go to work and the working conditions are not safe, then we are depriving them of equality.

7. The Supreme Court said that it is very concerned about the publication of the name of the deceased in the media. The court said that we have taken suo motu cognizance because this case raises a systemic issue related to the safety of doctors across the country.
