Was Rahul Gandhi sleeping in Parliament during the debate on the Waqf Board Bill? Modi’s ministers made allegations

A photo of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has been going viral on social media since yesterday. The ruling party is claiming that Rahul Gandhi was sleeping when Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju was introducing the Waqf Board Amendment Bill in Parliament. BJP leaders have shared a video in which they have shown how the Congress leader was mocked by Giriraj Singh during this time.

However, it is difficult to say whether the viral photo of Rahul Gandhi is from that time or not. However, many right wing supporters and BJP leaders have posted Rahul Gandhi’s photo and claimed that he fell asleep during this time.

A video shows Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju speaking on the Waqf Amendment Bill and BJP MP Giriraj Singh sitting next to him. As Rijiju speaks, Giriraj Singh can be seen pointing towards the opposition camp. During this, Giriraj Singh says, look, look, he has fallen asleep. Then suddenly BJP MPs sitting next to Kiren Rijiju, including Bhupendra Yadav and Jitendra Singh, started laughing and pointed towards him.

“That’s why I tell you don’t interrupt or try to interrupt again and again because that will make you fall asleep,” Kiren Rijiju quipped.

At the same time, BJP leader Shweta Singh, who made headlines on the streets of Lucknow against Akhilesh Yadav, has also released a picture of Rahul Gandhi and asked whether Rahul Gandhi is sleeping in Parliament?

What is the bill?
Let us tell you that this bill related to amendment in the law governing the Waqf Boards proposes far-reaching changes in the current Act, including ensuring representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims in Waqf bodies. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill also provides for renaming the Waqf Act, 1995 as ‘Integrated Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995’.

According to the statement of objects and reasons of the Bill, the Bill provides for deletion of Section 40 of the existing law relating to powers of the Board to decide whether a property is a Wakf property or not.
