IMD has informed on Sunday that Konkan, Goa, Madhya Mahakashtra, interior Karnataka, Marathwada are likely to receive light to moderate rains for the next five days. Strong winds and thunderstorms are likely during this period. Also, heavy rains are expected in Madhya Maharashtra from 9 to 11 July. Due to rain, timings of many long distance trains have been changed
Due to waterlogging caused by heavy rains between Kalyan and Kasara stations in Maharashtra, many long-distance trains have been diverted, some trains rescheduled and some trains have been shortened, Central Railway (CR) officials said. After the disruption between Kalyan and Kasara stations, traffic has been restored with limited speed, officials said.

Heavy rains and flooding between 3 am and 6 am on the Vasind-Khardi section damaged the embankment of the railway track, tilted an overhead equipment (OHE) pole and uprooted a tree, disrupting services on the Central Railway, a Central Railway official said. Traffic between Kalyan-Kasara has been restored with limited speed, he said.

He said the trains whose timings have been changed include 16345 LTT-Thiruvananthapuram Express, 12289 CSMT-Nagpur Duronto Express and 12145 LTT-Puri SF Express. Train numbers 20705 Jalna-CSMT Vande Bharat Express and Manmad-CSMT Super Fast Express were terminated at Igatpuri before their destination.

According to Central Railway, the route of many trains was changed and sent via Kalyan-Lonavala-Pune-Miraj-Londa-Madgaon. Drinking water, biscuits and tea were arranged for the passengers of many trains stranded on this section. The official said that apart from this, continuous announcements are being made at the stations for the information of the passengers. The official said that ‘tower wagons’ and other machines were put to work to clear the railway track and restore traffic on the section.

He said the track was declared safe at 12.30 pm and normal traffic resumed with limited speed on the section at 13.00 pm. Officials had earlier said that around 6.30 am, mud came on the tracks between Atgaon and Thansit stations and a tree fell near Vasind station, blocking the track, disrupting rail traffic on the busy route.

“Train services between Kasara and Titwala have been temporarily suspended,” a CR spokesperson had said in the morning. Meanwhile, around 110 mm rainfall in the Kalamboli-Panvel area led to waterlogging at Kalamboli station.

The official said that up and down services were suspended from 10.30 am to 12.05 pm. Suburban train services are considered the lifeline of Mumbai as well as other neighbouring areas including Thane, Palghar and Raigad. More than 30 lakh people travel daily through the suburban network of Central Railway.
