Who asked for money in the name of CJI Chandrachud? Delhi Police’s cyber cell will find out, FIR registered

At present, cyber criminals are adopting new methods to extort money. The latest incident has come to light regarding demanding money in the name of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. In this, the accused tried to extort money from a person by posting a picture of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on social media platform X. A day after the post about demanding money through social media platform ‘X’ in the name of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud went viral, the cyber cell of Delhi Police has taken action.

According to a PTI-language report, Supreme Court officials took cognizance of the said post. After this, Supreme Court officials lodged an FIR in the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police. A complaint has been lodged against a social media handle in the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police.

It is said that a fraudster had posted this by posing as Justice Chandrachud. According to a screenshot of the post that was made public, the fraudster wrote- ‘Hello, I am the CJI and we have an important meeting in the Collegium. I am stuck in Connaught Place. Can you send me Rs 500 for a cab? I will return the money after reaching the court.’ This incident has come to light at a time when the central government has warned people about incidents of cyber fraud.

Just a day before, in view of the cases of fraud related to fake e-notices and fake e-mails, the government had warned people to be cautious of such fake mails and e-notices. Instead of responding to these, the government has asked people to immediately complain about them on the website of the Cyber Crime Coordination Center. According to the report, cyber thugs are duping even people associated with various investigation agencies of the Home Ministry by sending such fake mails.
