Famous political commentator, lawyer and writer AG Noorani died in Mumbai on Thursday. He was 93 years old. He has also written many books, including the famous ‘The Kashmir Question’. He was a great legal expert on constitutional matters. He was highly respected in the scholarly world due to his expertise on constitutional matters. He practiced for a long time in the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court.
He has also been famous for his long academic and journalistic career. He also used to write regular columns in many newspapers. He has presented many papers in many seminars. There is also a wave of mourning in the political world over his demise. Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed grief over his demise and wrote on his social media x, “AG Noorani, a giant among scholars, has passed away. I learned a lot from him, from the Constitution to Kashmir, China and even the art of appreciating good food. May Allah grant him Magfirat ata.”
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted on Twitter: “Sad to hear about the demise of AG Noorani sahab this morning. Noorani sahab was a scholar, an accomplished lawyer and an erudite political commentator. He wrote extensively on matters of law and on subjects such as Kashmir, the RSS and the Constitution. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat.”
Who was AG Noorani
AG Noorani was born on September 16, 1930 in Bombay. He received his schooling at St. Mary’s School before obtaining a law degree from Government Law College, Mumbai. He had an illustrious legal career. He practised law in the Supreme Court of India and the Bombay High Court. His life was dedicated to knowledge, justice and writing. He used to write regular columns in newspapers.
His columns have appeared in various publications including Hindustan Times, The Hindu, Frontline, Economic and Political Weekly and Dainik Bhaskar. He is the author of several books, including The Kashmir Dispute, The Destruction of Hyderabad, The Babri Masjid Question and, for Leftward, The RSS and the BJP: A Division of Labour (2000), Islam and Jihad (2002) and Savarkar and Hindutva: The Godse Connection (2002).
