Why does Vladimir Putin want Russians to have sex during lunch and coffee breaks?

Russian President Vladimir Putin is very concerned about the country’s falling birth rate. According to the report, he has advised Russians to have sex during lunch or coffee breaks. This initiative has been taken at a time when the fertility rate in Russia is currently around 1.5 children per woman, which is much lower than the rate of 2.1 required to maintain a stable population. Also, more than 1 million youth have left the country in view of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Russian Health Minister Dr. Yevgeny Shestopalov has supported this suggestion to increase the population. He said that being too busy at work is not a valid excuse to avoid having a child. The Health Minister said, ‘If people want, they can take advantage of holidays to increase their family. Keep in mind that life passes very quickly.’ A reporter asked him how people working 12-14 hours a day will find time to have children? In response to this, he said that they can use their break time.

Putin’s concern is growing due to falling birth rate

Vladimir Putin has previously expressed concern over the country’s falling population. He had said, ‘Saving the Russian people is our biggest national priority. The fate of Russia depends on how many of us will live. This is a question of national importance.’ Data shows that Russia’s birth rate has reached its lowest level since 1999. The number of live births fell below 1 lakh in June. This massive drop has raised concerns about the population in Moscow. According to Russia’s government statistics agency Rosstat, the country has seen a significant decline in the birth rate. 16,000 fewer children were born between January and June 2024 compared to the same period last year.
