Why was Geeta not sent to Rajya Sabha? Mahavir Phogat lashed out at Hooda, called his statement a political stunt

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda has demanded that Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was out of the Paris Olympics, be sent to the Rajya Sabha. Vinesh’s uncle Mahavir Phogat has called Hooda’s demand to the BJP a political stunt. He has also asked why Geeta Phogat was not sent to the Rajya Sabha during his government?

Mahavir Phogat, while talking to news agency ANI, said that Babita had won silver and Geeta had won gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at that time the Hooda government was in power. Apart from this, his daughters were going to become DSPs, but Bhupinder Hooda discriminated and did not let this happen. Mahavir told that after this the matter was settled through the court.

At the same time, former wrestler and BJP leader Babita Phogat also reacted strongly to former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Hooda’s comment on sending Vinesh Phogat to the Rajya Sabha, saying that he should keep politics away from his family. After performing brilliantly in the women’s 50 kg match at the Paris Olympics, Vinesh was disqualified on Thursday after exceeding the weight limit before the final against America’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Hooda had claimed that if he had the majority, he would have given Vinesh a seat in the Rajya Sabha. Bhupendra said, “Today (in Haryana) a Rajya Sabha seat is vacant. If I had the majority, I would have sent her to the Rajya Sabha.” Following his remarks, Vinesh’s cousin Babita hit back, saying Bhupendra Hooda has his own agenda and he should keep politics away from Vinesh’s family.

Babita said, “Bhupendra Hooda should first tell how many sportspersons he sent to Rajya Sabha during his government. Hooda sahab is only after getting the chair. He should not try to bring politics in our family and divide our family.” Babita’s father Mahavir Phogat also agreed with his daughter’s views and claimed that Bhupendra Hooda’s comment was a political stunt.
