In the Kolkata case, for the fourth consecutive day on Monday, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials questioned former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh in connection with the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor. Giving this information, an official said that Ghosh reached the CBI office in CGO Complex on Monday morning. According to the official, Ghosh was asked what was his role after receiving the news of the doctor’s death, whom did he contact and why did he make the victim’s parents wait for about three hours?
The former principal was also asked who had ordered the repair of the rooms near the seminar room in the emergency building of the hospital after the incident. CBI officials have been questioning former principal Ghosh since Friday. Officials of the central investigating agency are also investigating the details of Ghosh’s mobile phone call list as well as his WhatsApp chat list.
Ghosh, an orthopedic surgeon, resigned from the post of principal of RG Kar Medical College on August 9, two days after the body of the woman doctor was found. He had expressed apprehension of an attack on him, following which his lawyer had sought protection from the Calcutta High Court. The court had directed him to approach a single bench.
The body of the 31-year-old trainee doctor was found in the conference hall of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The police arrested a man the next day in connection with the investigation into the incident. The post-mortem report revealed that she had been raped, beaten and brutalised. The parents of the deceased doctor allege that they reached the hospital within an hour of the phone call but were allowed to see their daughter’s body only after three hours.
