Sunita Williams News: Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore flew to space on June 5, but due to a technical fault in Boeing’s Starliner, both have not been able to return yet. Scientists from all over the world, including the US space agency NASA, are keeping an eye on the return of Sunita Williams and Butch. Meanwhile, ISRO chief S Somnath was recently asked if India could help in bringing Sunita Williams back to Earth, to which he replied that at this time only America and Russia can help both of them.
Speaking to YouTube podcast BeerBiceps, ISRO chief S Somanath said, “Unfortunately, at this point of time, we cannot do anything directly from India. We do not have the capability to send a vehicle to rescue it. The US and Russia can find a solution in this regard. The US has the Crew Dragon vehicle and Russia has Soyuz, both of which can be used for the rescue operation.”
At the same time, when the ISRO Chief was asked whether both astronauts Sunita and Butch Wilmore are trapped in space? Somnath replied that no, I do not think the situation is very serious right now. Some abnormalities were seen in the Boeing Starliner, which is why they are cautious. Starliner has had many problems before, even before its launch, due to which it was postponed several times. They finally decided to go ahead with the launch, but they are now wary of the risks involved in the return journey, which can be even more dangerous than the launch. Boeing is conducting ground tests to prove the safety of the spacecraft, but it seems that the results are still far away.
NASA meeting tomorrow on the return of astronauts
Let us tell you that the US space agency ‘National Aeronautics and Space Administration’ (NASA) will decide this weekend whether Boeing’s new capsule is safe for the return of two astronauts including Sunita Williams from the International Space Station (ISS), who have been waiting to return to Earth since June. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and other top officials will hold a meeting on Saturday, after which an announcement is likely in this regard. Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore flew into space on Boeing’s Starliner on June 5. During this test flight, the ‘thruster’ malfunctioned and due to ‘helium’ leakage, NASA kept the capsule standing on the station and engineers are considering what should be done next.
