Xiaomi Regains First Position in Indian Smartphone Market

The smartphone market in the country grew by only one percent on a year-on-year basis in the second quarter. Reasons behind the low growth in this market are Lok Sabha elections, lack of seasonal demand and extreme heat in some states. Around 3.64 crore units were shipped in the second quarter. It was around 3.61 crore units in the same period last year.

Market analyst firm Canalys Report It has been told that Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi and Vivo have shipped around 67 crore units each. The market share of these companies is 18 percent. Xiaomi’s sales include data of the company’s sub-brand Poco. South Korea’s Samsung has shipped 61 crore units. Its market share is 17 percent. China’s Realme and Oppo have shipped 43 lakh and 42 lakh units respectively. Their market share is 12 percent and 11 percent respectively.

For Xiaomi, the 14 Civi and Redmi Note 13 Pro have contributed significantly to the sales. Vivo’s V series and Y200 Pro have been sold in large numbers. The report says that most smartphone makers will try to clear their inventory during the monsoon sales of e-commerce companies before the new launch. The focus of customers buying smartphones will be on 5G connectivity and AI support.

In the second quarter of this year, shipments of smartphones in the international market grew by 6.5 percent. Samsung Electronics and Apple have a large share in this market. However, demand remains weak in some markets. In the second quarter, Samsung has secured the first position with 18.9 percent share. American devices maker Apple has a 15.8 percent share in this market. Xiaomi (14.8 percent) is in third place. According to data from market research firm IDC, this is the fourth consecutive quarter in which international shipments of smartphones have increased. Last month, Apple demonstrated new AI features for iPhones at its developer conference. The company’s iPhone 16 series may be launched soon. Samsung has also announced new AI features with its new Galaxy Fold and Flip smartphones.
