Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has welcomed the Supreme Court’s comment that the use of bulldozers by state governments on houses is wrong and has targeted the ruling BJP at the Centre on this pretext. Rahul said in a post that the SC’s comment on the BJP’s unjust ‘bulldozer policy’ is welcome. Rahul also said that now the anti-constitutional face of the BJP has been exposed in front of the country. He said that the country will run by Baba Saheb’s Constitution, not by the whip of power.
The former Congress president wrote in a post on social media X, “The Supreme Court’s comment on the BJP’s unconstitutional and unjust ‘bulldozer policy’ is welcome. The anti-constitutional face of the BJP, which has crushed humanity and justice under the bulldozer, has now been exposed in front of the country. The bulldozer, which has become a symbol of unbridled power, has constantly challenged the law with arrogance by crushing civil rights. Under the guise of ‘instant justice’, the wheels of the bulldozer, which is being run with the intention of establishing the ‘rule of fear’, often bring down the households of the Bahujans and the poor.”
He further wrote, “We expect that the Supreme Court will issue clear guidelines on this very sensitive issue and protect the citizens from this anti-democracy campaign of the BJP governments. The country will run by Baba Saheb’s Constitution, not by the whip of power.”
Let us tell you that the Supreme Court gave an important direction on Monday and said that it is wrong for the state governments to demolish the houses of people involved in criminal cases with bulldozers. The court on Monday questioned how can someone’s house be demolished just because he is an accused? The apex court said that it will prepare guidelines on this issue which will be applicable across the country.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Vishwanathan said, “How can someone’s house be demolished just because he is an accused? Even if he is guilty, this cannot be done without following the procedure prescribed by law.” However, the Supreme Court made it clear that it will not protect any unauthorized construction or encroachment on public roads.
