Iran-Israel Tension over Haniyeh Death: Israel has entered Iran and killed Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh. Iran is furious over this. Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday announced to take revenge from Israel for the death of Ismail Haniyeh. Khamenei said that after Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an airstrike in the early morning in Iran’s capital Tehran, Israel has ‘prepared a harsh punishment for itself’. He said in a statement on his official website, “It is our duty to take revenge for him. Haniyeh was our dear guest on our land.”
Let us tell you that Ismail Haniyeh had gone to Iran’s capital Tehran on Tuesday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new President Masoud Pezeshkian and was staying there, when Israel attacked and killed him. In the meeting of the National Security Council, Iran said that Israel will have to pay a heavy price for this attack. Now a red flag has been hoisted on the main dome of the Jamkaran Mosque in the city of Qom, 120 kilometers away from Tehran. It is believed that by hoisting the red flag, Iran has declared war against Israel. This red flag is a symbol of revenge.
Iran had earlier hoisted the red flag on this mosque on 3 January 2020 and on 5 January 2024. When the red flag was hoisted on this dome in 2020, the whole world was horrified. This was the time when Iran had announced to take revenge from America after the killing of Iran’s top commander General Suleimani. A similar flag was hoisted on 5 January this year after the bomb attack in Kerman.
In fact, when Haniyeh was murdered in Tehran, he was a guest of Iran. Iran is seeing this as an insult as the murder of a guest who had come to its home. That is why it is burning in the fire of taking revenge from Israel. Before the murder, many pictures of Haniyeh meeting Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had surfaced. Both the leaders have been shown hugging each other in many videos. Iran has called this attack cowardly and said that it is against the territorial integrity, dignity and honor of the country and the forces involved in this terrorist act will have to repent.
Leaders of Iran and some other Islamic countries have also reacted and blamed the Jews (Israel) for this attack, but no one has taken responsibility for this attack yet. Some reports say that the Hamas chief’s Tehran hideout was attacked with a missile, in which one of his bodyguards was also killed.
The Iranian government has declared three days of public mourning over Haniyeh’s death. According to a report in Iran’s state media, the National Security Committee of Iran’s Parliament has called an emergency meeting on the issue of Haniyeh’s murder. Meanwhile, the American newspaper New York Times has reported, quoting Iranian officials, that an emergency meeting of the National Security Council has been called at the residence of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
