In Yadgir of Karnataka, the upper castes have boycotted the Dalits. In such a situation, Dalits are not even getting entry in temples and shops. Barbers are not ready to cut their hair. They are also longing to get ration at grocery stores. The matter is that a Dalit family had filed a case under the POCSO Act against a 23-year-old youth belonging to the upper caste. When the upper castes pressured them to withdraw the case, they did not agree. On this, a boycott of all Dalits of the area was announced.

According to the police, the 15-year-old Dalit girl was in a relationship with a young man. The family alleges that the young man raped the girl on the pretext of marriage. However, when it came to marriage, he backed out. In early August, the girl’s family found out that she was 5 months pregnant. On this, the girl’s family started pressuring the young man to marry her. However, the boy’s family reportedly refused to marry.

After this, the girl’s family filed a case under the POCSO Act. Let us tell you that Yadgir is about 500 kilometers away from Bengaluru. After the complaint was filed, the upper caste family called the girl’s family for talks and tried to reach a compromise. However, when the Dalit family was not ready to withdraw the case, the upper castes announced a boycott. Before this, the accused was arrested.

Restrictions were imposed on about 250 Dalits living in the village. They were banned from going to grocery, stationery shops, temples and public places. Yadgir SP Sangeeta says that the police have camped here to maintain peace. She said that the situation is normal. She has requested the village elders not to behave inhumanly. She says that the villagers have also accepted the police’s advice.
