A minority group claims that hundreds of houses, businesses and temples of Hindus have been vandalized after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country. The latest case is related to musician Rahul Anand. There are reports that the mob has also set fire to his house. Anand plays the folk song Bant Joler Gaan. On Monday, Hasina resigned and left the country.
According to media reports, Anand’s Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka was targeted on Monday afternoon. It is being said that Anand, his wife and son managed to escape in this attack, but the attackers also looted their house. The mob also stole 3 thousand musical instruments from Anand’s house. The special thing is that the protesters also entered Hasina’s residence, where pictures of massive violence had emerged.
Talking to Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, Anand’s close friend said that the attackers first broke the gate and then started destroying the house. He said, ‘They took away everything from furniture to valuables. After this, they set fire to the entire house including Rahul da’s instruments.’
Attacks on Hindus
A day earlier, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) said that several houses, shops and temples had been targeted. BHBCUC claims that around 200-300 Hindu houses and shops have been vandalised. General Secretary Rana Dasgupta told Reuters that around 15-20 Hindu temples were damaged in Bangladesh and around 40 people from the community were injured.
