The biggest turning point of the first T20 match between India and Sri Lanka was Axar Patel’s over in which he took two wickets including set batsman Pathum Nissanka (79). While chasing the target of 214 runs, at one point Sri Lanka’s score was 140 runs at the loss of 1 wicket, then it seemed that the match would go till the last over. But then Axar Patel turned the match around by taking two wickets in one over. The Sri Lankan team collapsed like a pack of cards from here and the Indian bowlers made a strong comeback and won the match. Sri Lanka lost its 9 wickets in just 30 runs and the whole team was all out for 170 runs. India won this match by 43 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Batting first in this match, the pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal (40) and Shubman Gill (34) gave Team India a stormy start, adding 74 runs in the first 6 overs. After this, captain Suryakumar Yadav wreaked havoc and scored 58 runs in 26 balls. From here, India was clearly looking at a score of over 200.
Rishabh Pant completed the remaining task by scoring 49 runs. India scored 213 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Sri Lanka’s opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis (45) gave a blazing start to the 214-run target, adding 84 runs for the first wicket. Despite Mendis’ wicket falling, Nissanka did not stop and continued his aggressive batting. He shared a 56-run partnership for the second wicket with Kusal Perera (20).

Akshar Patel bowled Nissanka on the first ball and then got Perera caught by Ravi Bishnoi. After the fall of these two wickets, the Sri Lankan team suddenly slipped from the driving seat to the backfoot. The host team could not make a comeback after this and the team collapsed like a pack of cards.
Riyan Parag shone in bowling for India, who took the maximum three wickets in 1.2 overs by giving away just 5 runs. Apart from him, Akshar Patel and Arshdeep Singh got 2-2 wickets each.
