Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud: After three students drowned in the basement of an IAS coaching institute in the national capital Delhi, some students have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and requested him to intervene in the matter. In a letter to the CJI, a student named Avinash Dubey has alleged that they are forced to live a hellish life in the capital. The letter also demands action against the city officials and others in the case of the death of students in the coaching institute.

In a letter written to the CJI, Avinash Dubey has highlighted the lack of basic facilities in areas like Rajendra Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar. Students preparing for various competitive exams including IAS-PCS live in these areas. The residents here often struggle with the lack of basic facilities like drainage due to the negligence of the officers and employees of the Municipal Corporation and have to face flood-like situations there every day. In his letter, Dubey has made a compassionate appeal to the Chief Justice to protect fundamental rights.

Citing the tragic incident of drowning of three students in the basement of a building owned by Rao IAS Study Circle, Dubey has alleged in his letter that the basement was being used as a library in violation of city rules. According to NDTV report, the Chief Justice has not yet decided whether to accept the student’s letter as a petition and take legal action on it.

Meanwhile, after the death of three civil service aspirants due to waterlogging in the basement of Rao IAS Study Circle, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken strict action and dismissed one officer and suspended another. The MCD also carried out an anti-encroachment drive in Old Rajendra Nagar area on Monday. Earlier, the corporation had sealed 13 illegal coaching centers in the area on Sunday.

The police have already sealed the Rao IAS Study Circle, whose basement was flooded and three civil service aspirants died on Saturday. MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar said a junior engineer has been dismissed and an assistant engineer suspended in connection with the death of the aspirants at the coaching centre. He said both the officers were posted in the maintenance department of Karol Bagh zone. (With Bhasha inputs)
