ISRO Ram Setu: You must have been hearing about Ram Setu in Ramayana since childhood. It was built by Lord Ram’s monkey army between Rameshwaram Island and Sri Lanka’s Mannar Island, so that Mother Sita could be brought back from Ravana’s Lanka. Now ISRO scientists have got a big success regarding this Ram Setu. The good news has been given that scientists have prepared a detailed map of Ram Setu, which is also called Adam’s Bridge. For this, they have used the data of satellites of American Space Research Institute NASA.

Researchers have prepared a 10-metre resolution map of the entire length of the submerged bridge using ICESat-2 data from October 2018 to October 2023. The detailed underwater map reveals the continuity of the bridge from Dhanushkodi to Talaimannar, with 99.98 per cent of it submerged in water. According to a study published in the journal Scientific Reports, ISRO scientists used laser technology equipped with a US satellite to create a high-resolution map of the entire length of the submerged ridge.

The research team led by Giribabu Dandabathula has discovered 11 narrow channels, which play an important role in the flow of water between the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait. Researchers say that since 99.98 percent of this bridge is submerged in water, it was not possible to survey it with the help of a ship. At the same time, the records of the temples of Rameswaram show that till the year 1480, this bridge was present above the water in the sea, but then a cyclone came and it sank in it.
