Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from all formats of the game on Saturday, after which the cricket world wished him all the best for his future. Dhawan replaced Sehwag in the team as an opener and was among the first to congratulate him on his retirement. India’s great Sachin Tendulkar also shared a special message for Shikhar Dhawan after he announced his retirement from international cricket. Wasim Jaffer has said in his post shared on social media that Dhawan has been a player of big tournaments but he did not get the praise he deserved.
Sachin Tendulkar on Shikhar Dhawan’s retirement on X, said, “Shikhar Dhawan, the cricket field will surely miss your spark. Your smile, your style and your love for the game have always spread. Shikhar Dhawan was the Player of the Tournament in India’s ICC Under-19 World Cup win in 2004. He steadily progressed in his game and made his ODI debut in 2010. Sehwag wrote, “Congratulations Shikhar. Ever since you replaced me in Mohali, you have never looked back and have given some great performances in the last few years. May you continue to have fun and live life to the fullest. Wishing you all the very best forever.”
Former Test opener Wasim Jaffer congratulated Dhawan on his stellar career and recalled his team spirit and impressive performances in big tournaments. “He has been a player of big tournaments. He never got the praise he deserved, but he never cared who got the praise as long as the team was winning. Congratulations and best wishes for a great career as a team player,” he wrote.
