The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in the US has said that this faulty knob has been found to be the cause of about 250 fire incidents. In 18 of these incidents, people have suffered severe property damage. That is, homes have suffered heavy damage. More than 40 people were injured in these, out of which 8 needed to be treated in the hospital. Even 7 pets kept in the houses died in these fire incidents.

The agency has found faulty oven knobs to be related to these incidents. This knob can turn on unintentionally, for which a slight touch is enough. This fault is causing major incidents of fire.

Samsung has taken responsibility for this problem and is now recalling the ovens sold to fix it. The company is now providing knob locks and covers with them so that such incidents do not happen in the future. Also, for ovens with Wi-Fi features, the company has also included a notification feature which can be used through the SmartThings app. This sends an alert to the user when the oven is turned on.
