Violence after vandalism of idol in Kali temple in Tripura, dozens of houses set on fire

Unknown people set fire to at least 12 houses after an idol was damaged in a temple in Ranirbazar area of ​​West Tripura. The mob has also targeted several vehicles. Heavy security forces have been deployed in the area to reduce tension. According to the information, an idol of a temple here was damaged. After which the mob took this step. Eyewitnesses said that seeing the violent mob, people had to run away from their homes to save their lives.

Assistant Inspector (Law and Order) Ananta Das said, “Miscreants set fire to around 12 houses in Ranirbazar late Sunday night. The idol of Goddess Kali was found damaged in Kaiturbari here. Some motorcycles and a pickup van were also burnt to ashes in the fire.” There is no report of any casualty in the incident.

Das said a heavy deployment of security forces has been made to defuse the tension and the Director General of Police and the Superintendent of Police of West Tripura have visited the area. “After the assessment of damage to property is completed, the police will take suo motu cognizance and register a case. The situation is under control,” he said.
