India’s star shuttler Lakshya Sen created history as he entered the semi-finals of the men’s singles event of badminton at the Paris Olympics 2024. Lakshya Sen has become the first Indian player to win the quarter-finals of men’s singles badminton at the Olympics. He achieved this feat by defeating Chinese Taipei veteran Chou Tien Chen to reach the semi-finals. Many players from India reached the quarter-finals of men’s singles badminton at the Olympic Games, but this was the first time a male player won it.
Lakshya Sen lost the first game against Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei by a close margin of 21-19. However, he made a comeback in the very next game and defeated Tien Chen by 21-15, thus breaking his morale. In the next game, he registered a one-sided victory. Lakshya Sen won the third game by a margin of 21-12 and secured a ticket to the semi-finals. The match of round 16 was tough for him, as Lakshya was facing his compatriot SH Prannoy. Lakshya Sen defeated SH Prannoy by 2-0 and made it to the quarter-finals.
Lakshya Sen, a resident of Almora in Uttarakhand, is just 22 years old. He won a bronze medal in the 2021 World Championship. At the same time, he has won a gold medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Apart from this, he has also won a silver medal as a mixed team in the same event. He got a silver medal in the Asian Games 2022. Apart from this, he has many medals to his name. If he wins a gold, silver or bronze medal in the Olympic Games, then he will definitely become the first male shuttler from India to win an Olympic medal.
One win away from a medal
Lakshya Sen is one win away from an Olympic medal. If he wins the semi-final, then it will be decided without any ifs and buts that he will win at least a silver medal even if he loses the final. If he loses the semi-final, then he will fight for the bronze medal and if he wins that match, then he will win the bronze medal. However, Lakshya Sen’s goal will be to win the semi-final and ensure at least a silver medal.
